Given that, the forging community should consider automation to minimize its labor requirements. Automated billet feeding is one area that can improve manufacturing efficiency and reduce labor costs.
The Jominy end-quench test is used to measure the hardenability of a steel, which is a measure of the capacity of the steel to harden in depth under a given set of conditions. This article considers the basic concepts of hardenability and the Jominy test.
The Ellwood Closed Die Group (ECDG) completed construction of its climate-controlled close-tolerance finish machining complex at its Ellwood Texas Forge Navasota (ETFN) facility. The new operation concludes a year-long initiative to integrate operations of the former Ellwood Texas Forge and Machine with ETFN to improve customer solutions and to better leverage engineering and management resources. Capabilities include turning, milling, drilling, boring and single-point threading operations, with up to 14,000 square feet serviced by several overhead bridge cranes.
The new soft-grip back-blow safety air gun uses the smallest back-blow nozzle available to deliver a blast of air to effectively blow debris and liquids from inside small pipe or hose diameters, channels, bores, holes, internal threads and other internal part features.
Ring-rolling simulations have matured into a necessary tool for the efficient production of defect-free rings. Most defects encountered in production can now reliably be detected in a simulation, and solutions for the defects can be quickly implemented and verified. The optimized ring-rolling technology-chain simulation virtually ensures a defect-free product, and the information from the successful simulation can be used to set the operating parameters of your rolling mill.

The selection of an appropriate flooring system contributes to increased productivity and profitability by decreasing outages related to floor repairs and replacement, reducing expensive equipment repairs related to inconsistencies in the flooring and decreasing the risk of operator safety concerns and fatigue.
The 23rd International Forging Congress (IFC), to be held in Chicago Sept. 19-21, 2020, issued its call for presentations. The event, which will immediately follow the IMTS show, will showcase the best in technical and business-oriented presentations for the worldwide forging community. The IFC Planning Committee is calling for presentations now through Aug. 31, 2019.
