At its Annual Meeting of Members on May 2 at Hilton Head Island, S.C., the Forging Industry Association (FIA) presented Safety Awards to forging producers that represent the top-performing facilities in FIA’s 2015 Occupational Injury & Illness Survey. FIA placed all facilities that participated in the survey into groups based on number of employees. This ensured each location would be judged fairly against similarly sized competitors. The facilities in each group with the lowest recordable incident rates were eligible for awards, provided their DART (days away from work, work restrictions and job transfer cases) rates were less than the group average. First-, second- and third-place winners were announced for four groups.

First-place winners were:

  • Group IV (>325 employees): FRISA Industries (Santa Catarina Plant, Santa Catarina, Mexico)
  • Group III (176-325 employees) – BAE Systems, Land & Armaments (Anniston, Ala.)
  • Group II (81-175 employees) – Eaton Corp. (South Bend Forge Plant, South Bend, Ind.)
  • Group I (<81 employees) – Finkl Steel-Composite (Detroit, Mich.); Forge Products Corp. (Cleveland, Ohio); Forge Resources Group (Cardinal Forge and Michigan Forge, DeKalb, Ill.); Forged Products Inc. (Houston, Texas); King Forge and Machine Co. (Twinsburg, Ohio); Schaefer Equipment, a Wabtec Company (Warren, Ohio)
