Grupo Euskal Forging, a Spanish manufacturer of seamless rolled rings and other forged parts, ordered a new ring-rolling machine from Germany’s SMS Meer. This will be Euskal’s fifth seamless ring mill, and SMS Meer indicates the order will be the “second most powerful” ring-rolling system it has ever built. The machine, which is scheduled for commissioning in the first quarter of 2015, will be installed at Euskal’s plant in Sestao, one of its five operations in northern Spain. The new radial-axial ring-rolling machine will allow the company to extend its production spectrum to rings of up to 50 tons in weight with a maximum ring diameter of 10 meters (32.8 feet) and a maximum ring height of 1,700 mm (67 inches). Euskal produces seamless rings with outside diameters up to 8,000 mm (315 inches), as well as open-die forgings such as axles, crankshafts and forged discs.
