Turkish company Karabuk Iron & Steel Industry and Trade Inc. (Kardemir) placed an order with Schuler for a line to produce railway wheels. It represents the largest single order the Germany press manufacturer has received in its 174-year history. The order is the second Schuler has received for its newly developed wheel-rolling machine, which produces railway wheels from pre-forged blanks. Schuler will also supply a heat-treatment line and equipment for machining the railway wheels as well as testing technology for the finished wheels. The production line will be able to produce around 200,000 wheels per year with an average blank weight of approximately 500 kilograms (1,100 pounds). Kardemir is Turkey’s oldest steel manufacturer with an annual capacity of 3 million metric tons.
