Carpenter Technology has taken delivery of a 160-ton press frame for a radial press for its 500,000-square-foot facility under construction in Limestone County, Ala. Said to be the world’s largest hydraulic press, the press frame was shipped three weeks ago from Germany and will be installed in the $500 million plant currently under construction. The press, which cost $35-40 million to purchase and ship, won’t be started up for months yet. Full production at the large facility, which will include re-melting, forging and associated finishing and testing capabilities, is not scheduled to commence until April 2014.
