France's Le Creusot Forge (LCF), a supplier of forgings to the nuclear power industry, ceased operations in December 2015 upon the discovery of quality issues pertaining to the composition of some steel components used in reactor vessels.
Quality problems of forged steel products may originate from the ingot casting process. Simulation tools for both casting and forming processes are available to analyze and optimize the quality and productivity of each.
Euroforge, the umbrella
organization of the European national associations for the forging industry,
has had a checkered history. Given changing
market conditions, negotiations between the various national forging
associations eventually led to the founding of the “New” Euroforge in Paris on
Nov. 10, 2000.
