Production Starts at Manufacturing Facility in India
Alstom Bharat Forge Power Ltd. (ABFPL), a joint venture between Alstom and Bharat Forge Ltd., started production at its new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Sanand, in the state of Gujarat. Designed for making supercritical turbines and generators, the plant has an annual capacity of 4,000 MW and will produce equipment for several major power projects in India. The first shipments are scheduled for later this year. The factory currently employs more than 250 highly skilled workers, with plans to increase to 650 in the future.
The facility incorporates stringent manufacturing processes and practices to ensure a high level of reliability, performance and quality. The site will also implement the most stringent environmental, health and safety standards (EHS). An extensive training and knowledge-transfer program has been initiated to equip employees with the latest technological capabilities and expertise. Backed by a strong design capability in engineering and a robust and localized supply chain involving mainly local vendors, the facility will play a critical role in ABFPL’s strategy to enhance its capabilities in India.
