American businesses have become accustomed to trust any group or company that has the “appearance” of being dependable because it has the endorsement of organizations that will give one for a fee.
The term ISO certified or “Accredited by ABC” has given the impression of guaranteed credibility, honesty and trustworthiness. Often, this paid-for credibility has been earned by companies that could be trusted without any paid endorsements. There is a potential problem with this thought process. A manufacturing company can be “accredited” to certify the accuracy and effectiveness of their own products!
