Scot Forge started an expansion project at its Spring Grove, Ill., headquarters, where 80,000 square feet of space will be added for heat-treating and machining operations. The heat-treating addition will include two new tip-up furnaces with the ability to handle parts up to 90 inches x 90 inches x 392 inches; two car-bottom furnaces equipped to handle forgings up to 840 inches long; and dual quench tanks for both water and polymer with the capacity for product up to 79 feet long and vertical quenching up to 160 inches long. The machining addition will be comprised of a large 5-axis planer mill with plans for additional machine tools. The project is expected to be completed and the facilities operational by the fourth quarter of 2014.
