SMI Crankshaft LLC of Fostoria, Ohio, announced its official name change to NSI Crankshaft as of Sept. 1. This was the result of a company merger that occurred in 2012. SMI Crankshaft was established on Oct. 22, 2008, after Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp. and Sumitomo Corp. acquired 100% of what were then Norton Manufacturing’s assets. The acquired assets, and more than 200 employees, have been producing crankshafts for over 20 years. Sumitomo’s intent is for NSI Crankshaft to continue this activity for the automotive, diesel, oil and gas, and military markets long into the future.
