American Axle & Manufacturing (AAM) announced that it has begun supplying rear axles for Volkswagen’s 2010 Amarok, a new double-cab pickup recently launched for the South American market. The Amarok incorporates AAM's new high-efficiency axle, the TracRite Electronic Locking Differential (ELD), along with AAM's chassis-mounted locking-differential electronic control module. The axles will be manufactured at AAM's Araucaria Manufacturing Facility in Brazil and shipped to Volkswagen’s Pacheco plant near Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The open differential and ELD axles feature an all-new ring gear diameter, hypoid offset, axle housing and next-generation wheel end bearings. The lightweight, compact TracRite ELD allows a driver to quickly lock a vehicle's wheels for improved traction on and off road. “We are extremely pleased to be supplying this important new vehicle program, which recognizes our capabilities in designing and manufacturing driveline and chassis systems for the global market,” said AAM President and COO David C. Dauch.
