If your facility uses more than 450,000 cubic feet of natural gas per year, it must comply with a new U.S. EPA greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting rule that went into effect Jan. 1, 2010. The EPA is requiring any facility that emits 25,000 tons/year or more of GHGs to begin monitoring, recording and reporting those emissions annually. For forgers, the primary GHG emitted is likely to be carbon dioxide, mainly from combustion of natural gas or other fuels to run presses and/or furnaces.
The Forging Industry Association (FIA) has reported that the regulation would, at a minimum, affect large forging operations and potentially set the stage for future regulation of smaller forges. Visit thislinkto learn more about compliance.
