The National Forging Tooling Database (NFTD), a project managed by the Advanced Technology Institute of Charleston, S.C., is one of eight winners of the prestigious Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) 2009 Achievement Award. The award is sponsored annually by the U.S. Department of Defense’s Defense Logistics Agency to honor achievements that mitigate DMSMS issues. The NFTD locates and leverages millions of dollars of federal investments in forging dies for DMSMS solutions.
The value of the NFTD is its widespread distribution and ability to rapidly locate the necessary forging dies required to produce critical parts for DoD weapons systems. The NFTD represents 280,000 National Stock Numbers or part numbers valued at $5 billion in forging dies.
