Russia’s OMZ OJSC is modernizing and upgrading its press forging facilities at OMZ Special Steels division. Reconstruction of a 6,000-ton automated press forging complex is scheduled for completion in late May. The pump and hydraulics are being replaced, build-up welding and mechanical processing of worn-out parts are being undertaken and new electrical equipment is being installed. The next phase of OMZ Specialty Steels’ capital equipment modernization program provides for reconstruction of the company’s 12,000-ton complex, the largest of its type in Europe. The project, to be completed in late 2008, will increase capacity to 15,000 tons.
