ThyssenKrupp VDM has invested approximately $89 million on the construction of a new forging line in Unna, Germany, that has begun operation. According to ThyssenKrupp, it is one of the world’s most advanced open-die forging operations and has opened new possibilities to attract customers, particularly in the aerospace industry. The expansion of the forging operations has resulted in a 10% increase in the plant’s workforce. Two years ago, ThyssenKrupp VDM launched various investment projects totaling approximately $111.7 million as part of a forward strategy. At the Unna plant, they included the expansion of remelting capacities as well as the construction of a 5,000-ton forging press.

The company’s nickel alloy and special stainless steel products are used in the aerospace, oil, gas, energy, environmental, automotive and other industries. ThyssenKrupp VDM supplies high-performance materials for the construction of wide-body aircraft such as the Airbus A380 and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The company plans to supply materials for rotating aircraft parts in the future.
