Sheffield Forgemasters International (SFIL) has secured up to 50% funding for a $4 million research project from Yorkshire Forward, a publicly funded regional development agency. SFIL is a supplier of forged generator and turbine rotors to the power-generation industry. These forgings, which typically weigh between 80 and 105 tons, have to meet very stringent standards in order to operate in extremely high temperatures. Yorkshire Forward has approved a grant of up to half the project cost to help fund the technological development of these components at its newly created R&D facility at SFIL’s Brightside Lane site in Sheffield.
