The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced the formation of a joint venture to produce specialty steels and ultra-heavy forgings. NPCIL and L&T will set up a new, fully integrated facility in Hazira, Surat (India) that will augment India’s capabilities in manufacturing critical components for the nuclear power industry. The state-of-the-art facility will have a dedicated steel meltshop producing ingots weighing up to 600 metric tons each and a heavy forge shop equipped with a large forging press. The JV will supply finished forgings for nuclear reactors and steam generators in addition to heavy forgings for critical equipment in the hydrocarbon sector.
