UAW workers at American Axle & Manufacturing (AAM) ratified a contract between the union and the company, ending a 12-week strike. The deal affects approximately 3,650 AAM associates at five facilities in Michigan and New York. The UAW said 78% of workers nationwide approved the contract. AAM expects to have its plants running production this week. The four-year agreement will reduce wages and provide buyouts to workers who agree to quit.

The deal ends a strike that forced General Motors to shut or cut output at more than 30 plants. GM, which offered $218 million to help settle the strike, will not fully ramp up production at all of the plants affected by the dispute. According to union officials, AAM will close a forge plant in Detroit and a factory in Tonawanda, N.Y.
